The job

What the photos show

A full size offset smoker: firebox on one end, cook chamber on the other, quarter inch steel through the middle and a set of wheels that were never meant to cross a lawn. Both photos are mid lift, two crew getting it up and into the truck.

These are the items that sit in a backyard for years after the person who welded them stops using them. Nobody wants to move one. It will not go in a pickup bed alone, it will not go in a trash bin at all, and dragging it across a patio takes the tile with it.

Same category as a gun safe, a cast iron tub, a piano, a commercial range or a full size generator. The problem is never the volume. It is the weight in a shape with nowhere good to put your hands.

This one was a long haul

Burnet County is well outside the 35 mile radius the rest of this site describes. The GPS on these photos puts the job near Horseshoe Bay, north of Marble Falls, which is a long way from San Marcos. It is on the site because it happened, not because it is typical. If you are up that way, ask on the call instead of assuming either answer.

How heavy items go

What to say on the call

Where it sits and what is between it and the driveway

Grass, gravel, steps, a gate width, a slope. That is what decides whether it rolls, gets walked on a dolly, or needs to come apart first.

Whether it moves at all

Wheels that have been parked in one spot for five years are usually seized or sunk. Say so and the right gear comes on the truck.

Whether anything is still in it

Ash, charcoal, water, fuel or a propane tank changes how a thing gets handled and where it can go. Empty is easier and lighter.

Too heavy to move, too big for the bin

Tell us what it is, roughly what it weighs and what is between it and the driveway. San Marcos and the corridor, and ask about anything further out.
