The job

What was there

A large enclosure trampoline in a San Antonio backyard, the kind that goes up once and then sits until the kids outgrow it. Sun cooks the mat, the net goes brittle, and the frame rusts at the joints.

The reason people call on these is the springs and the ring. A trampoline frame is a closed circle wider than any gate, and taking it apart means working through dozens of loaded springs. It is a bad afternoon with the wrong tools.

How it went

Four steps, one trailer

  1. 01

    Net and pads off first

Enclosure netting, pole sleeves and the spring pad come off before anything structural. They are the parts that snag on a fence and the parts that blow around a yard if you leave them for last.

  2. 02

    Springs, then the mat

Every spring comes off under tension. That is the part that hurts people doing this themselves. Once the springs are out the mat lifts off loose.

  3. 03

    Frame broken down to sections

The second photo is two crew working the frame apart. A full ring will not go through a side gate. Broken into arcs and legs it goes out in armloads.

  4. 04

Carried out through the side yard

The hero shot is exactly that: net and frame going out the side of the house to the trailer. No driving across the grass, no taking a fence panel out.

Anchored or set in concrete

Some frames are staked with ground anchors and some legs get set in concrete. Anchors pull. Concrete has to be dug out and that leaves holes to backfill. Mention it on the call so the job is planned for the version you actually have.

Backyard tear outs

Whatever is taking up the yard

Trampolines, sheds, playsets, decks and hot tubs are the same problem: too big for the gate, too big for the bin.
